Taking pictures of food

I had never heard of people taking pictures of food until seeing Miranda's blog post about it. So I decided to research it as well. Matt Armendariz was a graphic designer and art director in the food industry. I knew that someone had to take pictures of food for advertisement but never really thought that hard into it before. Its not really something that would enjoy doing but I guess it needs to be or there really wouldn't be any advertisements for food or at least no picture to go with the article.

foot photography

I had never heard of foot photography until taking this class. If found it very interesting and decided to do more research on it. I came across Tom Robinson who first started taking foot photography with his new girlfriend when they were out by an ocean and he loved the view of the way they both had the feet pointed out towards the water. so ever since then they have been taking pictures of the feet at different place they travel. Then they had a daughter and they continued to take the photos but included their daughters feet. It was really cool flipping through his photos and watching their daughters feet grow through out every picture.

I was glad that as part of our final we had to enter one of our photos into the student show. Although mine was entered into the final part of the show it shows me that even though I think my photo is good and so do other people not everyone is going to be a fan of photos based on nature. So knowing this it tells me that I need to go and explore more things instead of just taking the same kind of photos all the time.

I am very happy that I decided to take this class. I feel that I have really improved the way I take photos and the way that I look at photos now. Learning all the different ways to really change the look of a photo and to not to focus on the middle of photo but to look at all four edges. I also learned that just because you may not like something that was in a photo but its there for a reason and its telling people a story. I really enjoyed taking this class and enjoyed everything that we learned. I hope that one day I will be able to the advanced class of photography.

White Balance

I really enjoyed doing the white balance. It was really interesting to see how the pictures changed depending on the white balance setting and the lighting of the picture. I also like using the color checker. It was really weird to see how much the lightening would change in a picture just from using the card. I also liked the WB ring around that we made one for the white balance made from light room and the other being made off of the camera.

Photoshop

I was a little uncertain about Photoshop when we first started talking about it in class but once we started be able to explore in it and working on our assignment I really started to enjoy working in it. When we were talking about it in class and going through each step was thinking to myself that I was definitely not going to buy this program for at home. But after I did the assignment I started to rethink my idea of not getting it.

Although I wasn't to excited about doing the portrait assignment I really did enjoy learning about how to set up, use and disconnect a studio set up. It really changed my perspective of someday having a side job as a family photographer. I really became inspired with wanting to do photography my freshman year of high school when we got our family pictures done by my sister-in-laws friend. She did an amazing job with our pictures and she really took her time with arranging all fifteen of us. After taking the photos I was all about photography.

Eggleston

I never knew that the colored photography was considered inappropriate until the 1970's. I learned this from reading and watching the video about M. Eggleston. I would like to learn more on how he was able to allow colored photography. I am sure that there had been other photographers who tried to take colored photographs fro certain things such as news articles or campaigns.  I am very glad that colored photography is allowed now. Although black and white photographs show a lot of detail but when you add color to them it completely changes the meaning of the photograph.

Annie Leibovitz

Leibovitz was also another one of my favorite photographers. It was interesting to read how she was always taking black and white photos and that it was really the only way she knew. When the Rolling Stones switched to colored photography Leibovitz had to take on the challenge and learn on how take photographs in color. Knowing that she took on this challenge of learning to colored photography and still do an amazing job tells me that I am also capable of trying new things.

Sally Mann

I really enjoyed learning about Sally Mann. I found it interesting that she really only took photos of her three children. I also thought it was a little odd that she continued to take the pictures that she did of her children when people started commenting on them but was surprised when her daughter said that it never bothered her when kids would give her weird looks when she was at school. Sally is probably one of my favorite photographers she did amazing work and created things that no one else has really created.
